Parkinson's at Christmas

How was Christmas for you? Hopefully it was peaceful and enjoyable.

Now I am living with Parkinson's, was Christmas any different for me. Yes, it was a bit.

The planning was no different, sneaking off to buy a gift for my wife, ordering the overpriced turkey, overpaying for the Christmas tree, the latter overpriced part can be blamed on the the fact Singapore is a country that imports almost all of its food and other produce.

Nothing changed on the exercise front, I still used the rowing machine for 30 minutes every morning and swam for 30 minutes every afternoon. I am not a structured person, but even if I say so myself, I seem to be sticking to this structure.

I went to meetings of AA (on Zoom) on a daily basis, I may suffer from Parkinson's but I am still an alcoholic in recovery and I need to keep close to AA.

Christmas day itself was very busy, we had around 15 members of family for dinner. We had to cook and then look after the family guests and my wife makes perfect roast potatoes after learning from the chef at a golf course we once played in the UK. https://www.ashbournegolfclub.co.uk/ If you are a golfer, try the course and definitely try the clubhouse menu as the chef delivers divine offerings!

With all the running around after the family, I forgot to take the Levodopa (Parkinson's tablet). I did panic, I was worried that something may happen...not sure what I thought would happen ! Fear of the unknown I suppose.

Surprise, surprise...nothing dramatic happened, I just took the tablet a bit later. I did feel a bit 'off' but just happy the day went ok.

A few days off work was very valuable also and on a couple of days, I actually did nothing, apart from the exercise I sat and watched TV and felt better for it. It is a long time since I actually did nothing. I need to do it again, rest the body and brain in synch.

Whatever you did over the festive period, I hope you enjoyed it. The work thing will be beckoning again soon enough....enjoy the break while you can.
