Fear and....Vertigo

Fear can be a nasty thing, but not as nasty as Vertigo! Well at least that's what I hope it is.

I travelled to Australia to meet some clients and play some golf and all was going great until I flew from Brisbane to Perth. During the journey I started to feel a bit dizzy. I thought nothing of it as I had had similar side effects from taking Thiamin and Leva Dopa too close together.

When I arrived in Perth, in the customs area, the whole building seemed to be spinning. As a Parkinson's sufferer balance is not my greatest strength. With the onset of the dizziness I was struggling to walk straight. I managed to get a taxi from the airport to the hotel and the fun really started. I was so dizzy, trying to pull my golf bag and suitcase, it reminded me of the days I spent in a drunken stupor unable to walk or talk. The taxi driver chuckled, obviously thinking I was drunk. I could not care, I just wanted to check-in and rest.

On the funny side, I noted that the lamp shade on the standing lamp in the hotel room was spinning...I actually held on to it to stop it spinning. Of course, it was not spinning but though my eyes it was. On the negative side, fear had set in that it may be something more sinister...it might well be but I cannot worry about it. Try and revert to living in the now Peter, the voice in my head whispered.

The episode started on Sunday and today is Tuesday and it has not eased up. I have tried some exercises passed to me by a friend who suffers from vertigo, I have also just bought some medication and will try that too. I have worked out it cannot be that sinister as I am still here typing !

I am travelling back to Singapore on Saturday and let's hope the vertigo leaves as quick as the fear left!

Although I have never suffered vertigo, I know from a couple of friends how disorienting and debilitating a bout can be. It sounds like it was triggered by the flight and hopefully, will resolve itself. You are a trooper to continue with your business meetings. I hope that you get some downtime and a round or two of golf. Ambrose
